When you are looking for a new place to live, one thing that you may quickly notice is that you can choose between an apartment in some cities and a condo. There are a few differences that are going to pop up with both of these, but one of them is the ownership. In an apartment, the landlord or property manager is going to own the space and you are just renting it, while with a condo,   you are going to own the place.

When you rent an apartment, you are going to pay a monthly fee to stay there. It is your home during the lease and you can take good care of it and not have the landlord just barge in and do what they want, but technically the property does not belong to you; it belongs to them. Once you are done with the lease, you may be able to renew it and stay longer, but the landlord can also choose to end the relationship and kick you out. You will not get any money back or anything when it is time to move (outside of the original security deposit if you took good care of the space).

In most cases, to move into an apartment, you will fill out your own rental application. If it is approved after paying the fees and all the background checks, then you will sign a lease and be able to move in. Both you and the landlord will need to follow all of the terms of the lease until it is done.

Since this is a rental situation, the monthly cost of your rent is going to stay the same until the lease is done. In some cases, the landlord will include some of your utilities, like your electricity, gas, and more. Most of the time, those are on your own and you will need to factor them into your budget when it is time to move into a new apartment of your choice.
